Soup is not a dish. It’s a hug: how to make a soup that heals the soul

Fifth – acid. Lemon juice. Vinegar. Tomato paste. Add at the end. It is a flash of light. It breaks heaviness. It brings the soup to life.

Sixth – salt. Not all at once. Add drop by drop. Taste. Then add more. Salt is a voice. It shouldn’t dominate. It should reveal.

Seventh – bread. Not just “as a side dish.” Take some black bread, toasted with garlic and olive oil. Immerse it in the soup. Let it soften. Let it become part of it. It is the warmth that eats.

Eighth – silence. When you’re making soup, don’t turn on music. Don’t look at the screen. Just stand. Watch the bubbles rise. Listen to the water sizzle. This is meditation. You’re not cooking. You’re restoring.

Ninth: serving. In a warm bowl. Not in a mug. Not in plastic. In ceramic. Let it be rough. Let it be old. Let it know this isn’t just food. This is an offering. “I care for you.”

Tenth: eating. Slowly. Not with your phone. Let the soup cool. Let you be in it. Let you remember who once fed you. Let you understand: all you need is warmth.
